Climate Friendly Food - Climate Friendly Farming

Welcome

The food system in the United States has almost the same impact on global warming and greenhouse gas emissions as our entire transportation sector (see "Resources" page) – and that's just in production! If you factor in distribution the numbers are far greater. While there is a tremendous amount of information available to consumers about the best car they should buy in terms of emissions, there is virtually nothing available to help them make better food choices. On the other end, farmers have little access to practical information about how their production systems impact greenhouse gas emissions on their farm.

Climate Friendly Food Production

GrowClimateFriendly was created to provide consumers and farmers with information on how their food and food production systems impact Greenhouse Gas Emissions and climate change. Unlike driving a car, some alternative farming techniques can not just lessen emissions they can actually absorb harmful gases. The initiative includes the Cimate Friendly Food and Farming TipSheets for both farmers and consumers to help the adjust their practices to be more climate friendly.

Climate Friendly Farming Certification

Whole-farm certification is available for farmers that have made a successful effort to mitigate their GHG emissions. Certification is no-to-low cost depending on the size of farm and offers producers a way to communicate to consumers and distributors the ecologically sustainable choices they've made in their production practices.

GrowClimateFriendly is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of farmers, consumers and researchers working to make our food system more sustainable.
